Vaccines as they relate to the African Diaspora

When Africans were brought over to the “New World”, they brought along with them their vast knowledge of herbs and vaccines. Although they were considered folk and root doctors, their medical practices were superior to that of their white counterparts. Africans found that if young children were inoculated with the infectious disease. Then they would become resistant to the disease later in life. Africans are credited with introducing treatments for smallpox. It stated that vaccination was a medical technique used on the Gold Coast. There were many African slaves who had vast knowledge of various medicines that could cure a plethora of diseases and illnesses. Colonial planters generally have more respect for these slaves rather than their actual medical professionals. The African Gift of Medicine enriched the development of medicine in America. Africans are the reason for the connect of Africa and Europe, adopting practical strategies as well as incorporating their past knowledge and experiences.
